Rathasaptami Celebration

Rathasapthami is a key Hindu festival celebrated on 28 th January to commemorate the change of season to spring and the start of the harvesting season. The festival is observed by all Hindus in their houses and in innumerable temples dedicated to the Sun God.

As part of the festival the children at NSE, Mysore were informed about the importance of the day and they were made to perform “11 Surya Namaskarams” in the direction of the Sun in the sky. On that day students from 3 rd grade till 8 th grade got to know the importance of taking shower keeping “Yakkada Hoovu” (Calotropis gigantea) on their head.

It was a wonderful experience for the students who understood the value of celebrating such festivals and also the importance it signifies in the Hindu calendar. The entire event was captured in colorful pictures to make it even more memorable.
